ok this thread is a discussion on were you think the war on terror might be headed.

The opinions in this post are only my opinions everyone is entitled to their own opinion i wont flame you for having a different opinion than me so dun flame me for having a different view then yours thanks in advance

(theres a difference in argueing a point and flaming)

i dont think the war on terror will be ending anytime soon since, even with the united states and our allies overwealming firepower we cant root out the terrorist. They look just like any other civilian its impossible to know sure we can start killing everyone but thats wrong. so, basically this war becomes a stalemate we cant possibly destroy all the terrorist we can only make them think twice, but since they are willing to kill themself no ammount of firepower will ever really stop them. They lack the sufficiant firepower to destroy us they can only cause us to be wary of strangers they cant possibly eradicate us so they cant win either so for the forseable future the war might never be over.

(the post was longer and had details on how terrorist attacks cant really be entirely prevented but i deemed it inappropriate to point out all the security flaws in airports trainstations and busses for fear of this info being used by someone and being pointed back at me you never know whos watching maybe some government goon or terrorist is reading GWG{wow maybe i need my paranoia looked into i sound crazy})

The biggest problem is that a topic like this is far too complicated to be discussed in a medium like this.

Examples:

- It is not really a war in the traditional sense of the word. It is more like a guerilla war against an opponent that remains hidden right up to the moment he is about to strike.

- The proclaimed opponent is performing terrorist deeds out of fanatical idea's. There is no talking or resoning with them. In fact many groups have said not to stop before the "enemy" is completely annihilated.

- As a so called civilised society we cannot indiscriminately kill anyone we deem a terrorist. We only have laws to punish ppl for things they did. Not for things they are thinking about doing.
- Nonetheless a lot of innocent ppl are being killed because of the war on terror. By both sides of the conflict.

Etc etc

One point i would like to take out in particular. The one where you state that "they" lack the firepower to destroy us.

This may only be a matter of time. Already there are portable sized nuclear weapons available. I am convinced if one of these organizations ever acquires one of those they are sure to use it.

War on Terror hah.
Your attitude is typical of what only escalates and continues the 'war'. The attitude that the solution to the problem is killing the people who may become terrorists, not looking at the 'why'.

i think that in some instances asking 'why' can be pointless.
for example: why did whites enslave blacks?
because they 'knew' them to be inferior (their view not mine)
ask them why they are inferior and you'll gat an answer:
because they are black.

this is why politics should not be discussed on forums. it is too easy for people to simply go for invalidating your argument rather than validating theit own... it is easier.

We will lose the war on terror. Completely and utterly fail. Why? because everyone who supports terrorist groups are willing to die for their cause. I don't see all the people in the US, UK, and elsewhere too ready to die fighting terrorism. Also, we have to completely eradicate every last terrorist to win (that's how we'd like the "win" scenario to look). All the terrorists have to do is scare us shitless (which, to an extent, is already accomplished), and then they have defeated their enemy.

It's also funny how terrorists don't screw around with people who don't do stupid things (ex. Canada). Canadians aren't huge obnoxious pigs imposing their views on everyone else, they didn't get into a morons war, they don't get attacked by terrorists. I see a direct correlation.

We got ourselves into a fight we cannot possibly win on our terms.

Sorry for discussing politics (way too tempting for my amount of willpower

), although I made sure not to attack other people's views

the whole concept of "war on terror" was just stupid ... it's a HUGE moneysink without any real effect ... in fact, i'm pretty certain the war on terror causes even more people from the attacked countries to join the terrorist groups. Just think of it, how would you react if an AT4 obliterates your house and 3/4th of your family on a sunny sunday afternoon cause some guys in fancy suits hundreds of miles away pinned your city on a map as "potentially dangerous" ? (and don't say AT4's are only used on armoured vehicles, yes, they are designed to do that, but i've seen plenty of footage where they're used to take out snipers/possible threads, usually blowing up a whole part of the building with them)
anyway, the USA (no offence) has a history of military screw-ups, and i'm affraid the war on terror won't be the last ...
